Title: Faculty of Agriculture fonds, Canadian International Development Agency (Kenya) Series.
Dates: 1966-1984.
Extent: 1.6 m of textual records. -- 16 photographs.
Administrative history: Beginning in 1968, the Canadian International Development Agency (C.I.D.A.), in cooperation with the University of Manitoba, gave Kenyan students an opportunity to learn from Manitoban farmers by working on Manitoban farms. Additionally, Kenyan students observed agricultural extension methods and programs in Manitoba by observing agricultural representatives at work and by assisting them. The program was arranged with the Director of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, and Animal Husbandry in Nairobi. Similarly, professors from the University of Manitoba traveled to Kenya.
Custodial history: Debbie Mechler from the Faculty of Agriculture Dean's Office transferred the C.I.D.A. Kenya files (R.C. McGinnis) to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections in 1989.
Scope and content: The series consists primarily of files relating to research projects as well as papers prepared by staff at Njora, Kenya, Dean Len Shebeski's notes from his trip to Kenya, and files of Dr. J.J. Njorage, Chief Research Officer of the Department of Agriculture, Kenya. Both colour and black and white photographs are located in PC 17.
