Biographical sketch: Arthur Meighen (1874-1960) was Prime Minister of Canada from 1920 to 1921 and again in 1926. Following his graduation from the University of Toronto in 1896, Meighen relocated to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. He was appointed Solicitor General in 1908 and Secretary of State in 1910. He was Minister of the Interior in the Union government elected in 1917.
Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by St. John's College in 1982.
Scope and content: The fonds consists of a 33 1/3 rpm phonograph record of a speech delivered before the Canadian Club of Toronto on February 24, 1936 by Arthur Meighen on the subject of William Shakespeare. It is entitled "The Greatest Englishman of History".
