Title: Hilda Morrish fonds.

Biographical sketch: Hilda Morrish was born circa 1920 in Hove, England. She joined the Women's Royal Naval Service in 1940. She requested, and was granted, a transfer to Cheltenham, Gloucester. She was later present in Paris in August of 1944 and toured in July 1945 after VE (Victory in Europe) Day. She later moved to Winnipeg and graduated from the Education Faculty of the University of Manitoba. In November 2005, the memoirs of her wartime experiences were read as part of a Remembrance Day ceremony at the University of Manitoba.

Custodial history: The fonds was donated by Hilda Morrish to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections in December 2005.

Scope and content: The fonds consists of two series: textual records and photographs. The textual records series is comprised of two letters mounted on cardboard and signed by Dwight D. Eisenhower as Supreme Commander, Allied Expeditionary Force, photocopies of two maps of England and Germany, a four-part typewritten memoir of the donor's war-time experiences, and a partial list providing captions for the photographic series. The photographic series is comprised of 39 monochrome photographs (each 16.5 x 23 cm) taken and printed by the donor. Each photograph is mounted on 29 x 36 cm card-stock on which brief captions have been written in pencil.

Physical description: Photographs are mounted to card-stock only at top edge and are curling at lower corners. Each photograph should be mounted in a mylar sleeve to lessen further damage to photographs.

Arrangement: Photographic series is in the order determined by donor. The fonds has been divided into textual and photographic series by University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections.
