Administrative history: The Supreme Headquarters, Allied Expeditionary Force (S.H.A.E.F.) was a joint U.S.-British military organization created in England in 1944 to carry out the invasion of western Europe. After the conclusion of hostilities in May 1945, S.H.A.E.F. staff began to close down its activities and S.H.A.E.F. was formally dissolved in July 1945. A small joint U.S.-British organization, the Combined Administrative Liquidating Agency (C.A.L.A.), was created to finish disbanding the S.H.A.E.F. organization.
Custodial history: The fonds was donated to the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections in May 1979 by Ronald Dale Gibson, a graduate of and professor in the Faculty of Law, on behalf of the Faculty of Law. The fonds was previously referred to as the Faculty of Law collection but was changed in 2005 to more accurately reflect the fonds' provenance.
Scope and content: The fonds consists of one folder of newspaper clippings of texts of Allied Communiques Nos 1 to 161 in the Winnipeg Free Press giving the daily progress of the Allied Expeditionary Force invasion of Europe from June 7, 1944 to September 20, 1944.
