Information about the workshop series ideal for graduate students and researchers in the Department of Biological Sciences.

What is Know B.S.?

A NEW brown bag workshop series designed for you to learn tips and tricks about information skills in 30 minutes that are pertinent to your research, career, and life in general.

When are they happening?

Mondays in October and November from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Room 304 Biological Sciences Building, Fort Garry Campus, University of Manitoba.

There will be no sessions on October 9 (University closed for Thanksgiving) and November 13 (University closed in lieu of Remembrance Day).

Who can attend?

Anyone can attend the sessions. Be sure to bring your lunch.

Is there a cost?

Sessions are free to attend.

Do I have to attend all of them?

You can attend one or more of the sessions.

Do I need to sign up in advance?

No, just show up on the date.

On Monday, October 16 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in 304 Biological Sciences, come out and learn strategies and tools to help with tracking citations.  You will learn two ways to find a source with only a partial citation information.  Two strategies on how to find out information a journal citation style.  Plus a quick overview of tools that can help you create citations quickly. 

What's a DOI?

DOI - acronym that stands for digital object identifier.  You will often see a DOI mentioned in citations.  If you have a DOI, that is the only piece of information you will need to find the journal article.

Journal Abbreviations

You may be wondering how to look up a journal abbreviation. One of the best ways is using an online lookup tool called CASSI. You can search CASSI with a journal title or with a journal abbreviation.
