Author: Lyle, R.C. (test 1)
Summary: A rapid performance assessment measuring specific changes in limb function among individuals following cortical damage due to hemiplegia. The performance assessment is grouped into four subtests: Grasp, Grip, Pinch, Gross Movement.
Format: Standardized battery of motor performance tasks
Library Record: Call # WL 355 A171a 1990 ATOOLS (Reserve Desk)
Population: Individuals who have sustained cortical damage secondary to stroke, traffic or industrial accidents or assaults that resulted in hemiplegia; chronic stroke patients; and acute stroke patients.
Scoring
The quality of movement for each test is rated using the following system:
3 = Performs test normally
2 = Completes test but takes abnormally long or has great difficulty
1 = Performs test partially
0 = Can perform no part of test
Completion time 8 minutes (average)
Equipment

Determine Validity and Reliability
To determine validity and reliability of this test copy and paste the search string into a PubMed (U of M faculty, students and affiliated users use this PubMed link):
("action research arm test") AND ((((("Reproducibility of Results"[Mesh]) OR "Sensitivity and Specificity"[Mesh])) OR (reliabl* OR valid*)) OR (sensitiv* AND specif*))
To search the validity and reliability in CINAHL copy and paste this search string into CINAHL (U of M faculty, students and affiliated users only)
(("action research arm test") OR (IN "action research arm test")) AND (( (MH "Reliability and Validity+") OR (MH "Measurement Issues and Assessments+") OR (MH "Predictive Validity") OR (MH "Sensitivity and Specificity") ) OR ( reliabil* OR valid* ) OR ( sensitivity and specificity ))
The Neil John Maclean Health Sciences Library will provide assessment tools and outcome measures for loan to faculty, students and staff of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) with a valid University of Manitoba (U of M) Library ID. If you qualify to borrow a tool you will need to fill out and present this form to the NJMHSL Circulation staff.
