Boston diagnostic aphasia examination (3rd ed.)

Author: Harold Goodglass Edith Kaplan; Sandra Weintraub

Summary: The Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination aims to test for the (1) "presence and type of aphasic syndrome that leads to inferences concerning cerebral localization and underlying linguistic processes that may have been damaged and the strategies used to compensate for them; (2) measurement of performance over a wide range, for both initial determination and detection of change over time; (3) comprehensive assessment of the patient's assets and liabilities in all language areas as a guide to therapy." Testing for these three functions is useful to the speech pathologist, the neuropsychologist, and the neurologist.
