Study Spaces

Study while enjoying the best views on campus!

The Sciences and Technology Library has approximately 300 study spots located throughout the library's 4 floors.  Amenities include wired & unwired carrels, tables for working in groups, lounge seating, and mobile whiteboards that double as room dividers.

In order to accommodate all preferences, the library has designated areas for group, quiet and silent study:

Main Floor:

Group Study  A volume icon implying maximum noise.

  • Converse and collaborate
  • Group projects and assignments
  • Cell phone use permitted
  • Electronics with earphones

Third and Fourth Floors:

Quiet Study A volume icon implying minimum noise.

  • Small group and individual study
  • Quiet, respectful conversations
  • Cell phones on vibrate – texting only
  • Electronics with earphones

Fifth Floor:

Silent Study A volume icon implying no level of noise is allowed.

  • Individual study
  • No talking
  • Cell phones on silent – texting only
  • Electronics with earphones
 
 

Group Study Rooms

The Sciences and Technology Library has 4 rooms that UM students can book online for group study or collaborative work. VGA and HDMI cables can be loaned for 2-Hour periods from the Service Desk.

Study Room Guidelines

  • A valid UMnetID is required to book a room.
  • There must be a minimum of 2 members present at all times to retain your booking.
  • Book up to 2 hours per day to a maximum of 6 hours per week.
  • After a room has been successfully booked online, you will receive a confirmation email outlining the details of your booking.
  • You will need to swipe your UM card and enter the PIN emailed to you before entering the room. Note: This pin must be entered within the first 15 minutes to ensure your booking is not canceled by the system.
  • Rooms may also be booked the day-of using each door's pinpad and a valid student ID card.
  • Please keep the rooms tidy. Food is not permitted.
  • Extra tables and chairs cannot be brought into the rooms as they pose a safety hazard.
  • Rooms are to be used for University of Manitoba student study only. Instructional or recreational use is prohibited.
