ORCID: Benefits of ORCID

Eliminates Name Ambiguity

Image demonstrating the resolution of the name ambiguity problemA researcher's name can appear in many different formats and languages, and different researchers can often have similar names. This makes it difficult to ensure that all works are attributed to the right person. Using ORCID as a unique identifier helps to resolve this problem.

Improves Discoverability

With a link to your ORCID iD next to your name in databases, repositories, and other systems, people can easily click through to read more about all of your research output. This includes publications, conference papers, patents, datasets, media stories, experiments, and notebooks. Including a link to your ORCID iD in your CV is an easy way to provide a comprehensive picture of your research activities.

Saves Your Time

Rather than entering the same information in multiple different forms, connecting your ORCID iD autopopulates the required fields.

To view the institutions, publishers, and organizations that have integrated ORCID into their workflows, see their list of integrators on the ORCID website. Some organizations, such as Wiley and PLOS, require an ORCID iD in their submission process. Others provide the option to link your application to your ORCID iD to make the application process smoother and faster.

Stays With You Throughout Your Career

Maintaining an ORCID iD provides a constant summary of your work, regardless of any changes in your institutional affiliation.
