    DIGITAL STRATEGIES CONSULTATION

What is a Digital Strategy?

A digital strategy is a project plan that outlines how to create, format, describe, utilize, and make accessible digital resources to achieve your objectives. The Libraries provide digital strategies consultations tailored to meet the needs of faculty, staff, and students to assist them in considering the following:

File formats

  • What file formats support long-term accessibility and use?
  • What file formats are commonly used within your discipline?
  • Will you be migrating or reformatting your files?

Digitization

  • What equipment or services should you be using for digitization?
  • What specifications should you be using when digitizing content?

Retention and Preservation Planning

  • How long does the content need to remain accessible?
  • Should content be backed-up? If so, how often?
  • Should copies of the content be made for added security?
  • What methods should be used to prevent file degradation?

Access and Discoverability

  • Will content be made publicly accessible?
  • Do access permissions need to be put in place for your content?
  • Do any restrictions apply to your content?
  • What descriptive metadata do you need to make your content discoverable?
