UM Libraries Staff Working From Home: Personal Online Reference

Enable Personal Online Reference in LibAnswers

Instructions from Kyle Feenstra's email to Librarians.

Sign into LibAnswers and go to the page for “Chat Widgets” under the LibChat menu.

Choose the option to create a new widget.

Create a pop-out button for your libguide or profile. It is important that you select yourself as the person who monitors the widget so the patron is not redirected to the general Ask Us queue.

Once you have created your chat button save it and copy the widget code. You can then paste the code into your profile. To do this go back to your profile page in LibApps. Paste the code into the space provided.

The button will now appear on your profile. Keep in mind that it will only show as “online” if you are signed into LibChat. If you are not signed in the button will redirect patrons to our FAQs by default. You can modify this option when you create your widget.
