  LIBRARY SUPPORT FOR RESEARCHERS

     DIGITIZATION SERVICES

University of Manitoba Libraries are closing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) starting on March 21, 2020. As a result we will no longer be accepting digitization requests until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience.

If you have any questions, please email Sara Min at seon.min@umanitoba.ca

The Libraries offer several options for individuals interested in digitizing materials for their personal, professional or academic use. The Libraries' Research Services and Digital Strategies (RSDS) unit provides clients with high resolution scans and editing services for materials such as rare books, photographs, negatives, and textual documents for a fee.

RSDS recommends that clients use high resolution scans that conform to preservation standards when using the images for publication, commercial, and large scale printing purposes. Any request for a high volume of scans will be charged as a digitization project. See the Digitization Projects page to find out what constitutes a digitization project. If individuals wish to have materials digitized at a low resolution, please contact the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections: (204) 474-9986 or archives@umanitoba.ca for more information.

One or more EPSON and Xerox scanners are freely available for self-service scanning in all University of Manitoba Libraries. Prior to using self-scanning services, individuals should note:

  • Using a self-serve scanning station may require a UMNetID and password.
  • Library books must be scanned on-site unless previously signed out.
  • Archival material must be scanned within the Archives & Special Collections area (330 Elizabeth Dafoe Library).
  • It is the responsibility of the client to ensure that use of scanned material abides by relevant copyright legislation.

Please ask a Library staff member for assistance.
