After signing in, you are brought to One Stop Search; a multidisciplinary database that searches for books, articles and other resources available through the University of Manitoba. While One Stop Search can be browsed without signing in, you may not always be able to see all information available. Signing in will allow you to view all physical and electronic titles in the U of M’s collection, which can increase and sometimes even triple your search results.
To save your search, choose the “save query” option at the bottom of the page. If your search is saved, you have the option to come back to your full list of results at a later date, without having to type in the same terms all over again. This is particularly helpful for longer or more complicated searches. For future use, saved queries can be accessed under the “My account” option on the top right hand side of the screen.
While a lot of content found on One Stop Search can be accessed online, certain items, such as physical books, may need to be requested. To request an item through One Stop Search, select the “availability” tab, and look at your “request options”. Use the “Request” link when possible. If you don’t see a “Request” link, choose “Document Delivery”. Request times can vary, but you will receive an email message with more details when your item is ready to be picked up.
To view all the physical items you’ve checked out, as well as any requests or fines you may have, select the “my account” link. Here, you can also view your e-shelf, as well as any search queries you have saved.
When you run a search in One Stop Search, you’ll see a list of results. To the left of each result, you should see a small star. Clicking the star marks the result. Automatically, marked results are saved to the e-Shelf.
When you click on e-Shelf link, at the very top right of your browser window, you can see the results you just marked. These are saved temporarily. If you sign in using your umnet id and password they will be saved permanently, or until you delete them. There are a number of things you can do with your saved results. First off, look on the right hand side of the result lists. The small bubble allows you to write a note about the item.
On the left hand side of the results, you can see a blank button. Click that to select the item. Once you’ve done that, you can click on the small folder icon on the left side of the screen, under the e-Shelf heading. This icon will create a new folder. You can create as many folders as you need. Name the folder whatever you like. You should see a bubble to the right hand side where you can describe the folder. Once your folder is set up, you can drag and drop your selected results into it.
You can also use the icons to copy selected records from one folder, and paste them into another folder. This allows you to have an item in more than one folder. On the same line as the copy and paste icons, you should see scissors and an X. The scissors allow you to cut a selected record from a folder without deleting it entirely. The X icon will delete all record of the saved item.
You can email the saved items to yourself or a colleague, print a list of items, or save them to a bibliographic management software like Refworks, EasyBib or Endnote.

Total fines will not exceed $50.00 per item. If fines exceed $20, you may have your account suspended. If overdue materials are not returned, or if fines reach $100.00 or more, you may be contacted by a collection agency.
