Creating Your Own Permalinks

This is how to create a permalink for a resource in OneStopSearch, and how this link can be shared with others via various online communication platforms.  The term “permalink” refers to a link that is secure, or permanent.  It is unlikely to break, and can be shared with anyone, without infringing on copyright issues.  In order to view the resource, the person accessing the link will need to have access to the University of Manitoba, via a UMnet ID or 14-digit ID.

To begin, go to the Libraries homepage, at  Use the OneStopSearch database to find the item you would like to share, for example, the title of a book or article.  Once you’ve found the record for the item you need, click on its title.  Using the “actions” tab on the right hand side of the record, select “Permalink” and copy the permalink provided.

The permalink for your resource can now be shared with others.  It can easily be copied and pasted into text messages, emails, personal websites, and other documents.  The link will remain active as long as the University of Manitoba Libraries has access to the resource you’ve chosen to share.
