This tutorial will explain how to upload research publications to Mspace http://mspace.lib.umanitoba.ca .
When you arrive at the MSpace home page, you should see the phrase “sign on to:” on the right side of the page. Click on the phrase to see a pull down menu. The first option should be “Submit to MSpace.” Clicking that will bring you to a page that asks you to choose a sign on method. Choose the first option that reads “click here to enter your UofM Email ID and Password.”
You should now be on the MSpace sign on page. Enter your UM email and password. Students and staff have specific email id formats. Students, enter in the format umnetid@myumanitoba.ca. Staff, enter in the format firstname.lastname@umanitoba.ca
After you log in, you should see a choice of submissions, one for a thesis/practicum and one for a research publication. Choose the second option.
Read through the rights and responsibilities. If you are depositing your previously published article to MSpace, you should be aware of the self-archiving rights and responsibilities as spelled out in your publication agreement. Refer to the publisher's website for your journal article or theSHERPA/RoMEO website at http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/search.phpfor more information. Think about the following questions:
If you have any questions contact Wendy Prystenski by phone at 204-474-7895, or by email to wendy.prystenski@umanitoba.ca
The next step is to click the link that reads “start a new research publication submission.” You’ll be presented with a pull down menu where you can choose a collection to submit to. Choose Research Publications from University of Manitoba Researchers and click the Next button. This will take you to a page where you can start describing your publication by author or authors, title, date of issue, citation, identifiers such as ISSN, type, and language. After you fill in all of this metadata, you can click next where you’ll see a page that asks you for subject keywords, an abstract, any sponsors, and any other descriptors you want to enter.
After you fill in all of this information, you can upload your file. Your document has to be a supported format, which are listed by clicking “click here for MSpace supported file formats.” The file must not be password protected or it won’t be ful text indexed and processed. You have the options to describe the file, and to set an embargo date, or a date from which access is allowed, along with an optional reason for an embargo.
Clicking Next will give you a page where you can review your metadata and correct any errors. Once you’ve completed everything to your satisfaction, you can click Next and read the distribution licence.
Read through the terms and, if you agree with them, check the box beside “I Grant the License” and then click the box that reads “Complete Submission.”
Congratulations! You’ve entered your document! Your document is now discoverable in MSpace and, by extension, in search engines like Google.
