At present, the University of Manitoba Libraries (UML) provides a single data repository for University researchers, in addition to guidance on how to meet open data requirements for grant funding agencies as well as publishers. Our primary offering for data deposit (Dataverse) has seen a significant increase in use in 2018 and 2019. However, there are still a number of issues to be resolved in order for the UML to expand our data repository and associated services to a greater number of researchers. To this end, a task force has been created to complete the following objectives:
1. Determine the amount of data and number of users within UM Dataverse (https://dataverse.lib.umanitoba.ca/)
2. Create a more fulsome and accessible Dataverse Guide for end-users that includes visual depictions for the Dataverse environment (structure, roles, permissions, etc.)
3. Research and include more diversified metadata schema for Dataverse datasets and objects.
4. Assist in the development of policy and procedural documents.
5. Research and provide information on alternative repositories (UM IST, OSF, Scholars Portal Dataverse, FRDR, among others) for research data at the University.
6. Create a better online access point for UML Data Repository Services.
7. Develop additional templates for UML’s DMP Assistant.
8. Research and post information about Open Data requirements imposed by both grant funding agencies and commercial publishers.
9. Develop presentation and promotional material for UML Data Repository
Services.
