Summary of the Update on ORCID and Funder Workflows

by Andrea Szwajcer on 2019-06-28T15:44:46-05:00 | Comments

ORCID has released an update on ORBIT's activities, the working group of major funders, including the Tri-Agency, and ORCID to investigate ORCID integration into funder workflows.

Key integrations that have occurred during the project to date:

  • Altum's grant management/tracking system proposalCENTRAL: implemented additional workflows beyond the basic requirement of ORCID reporting as part of the application process. These include: (a) researchers can now pull all their ORCID data into their proposalCENTRAL profile and use this data in their Applications and Progress Reports from a list; (b) funders get alerts to researchers' accomplishments, research product releases after a grant end; (c) funders can use ORCID data to evaluate the impact of programs well after the individual grants have ended; (d) the software proposalCENTRAL reports information about the awarded grants back to the awardees' ORCID records To view an example of the dashboards available via ORCID integration in proposalCENTRAL, see the blog post
  • Wellcome Trust, NIHR and CC Grant Tracker:  Wellcome and NIHR both use CC Grant Tracker (CC Technology's grant management software). In 2019 CC Grant Tracker has updated their platform with advanced ORCID integrations: (a) when a researcher completes an application form, they can import publication information from ORCID into the platform and formatting is done automatically to the funder's specifications; (b) researchers can give permission for data about their successful applications to be added to their ORCID account, e.g. when the grant is awarded the lead applicant's ORCID record is automatically populated by the software platform with the grant's details with authenticity to ensure grant information come from the funder directly and not a third party.
