Bradley Morrison fonds

Call Number: Mss 120 (A.04-160, A.07-34)

Title: Bradley Morrison fonds.

Dates: 1902-1978.

Extent: 0.08 m of textual records.

Biographical sketch: Bradley Morrison worked for the Ogilvie Flour Mills Company for many years and has collected material relating to their operations. Marion E. Lyall, an employee of Ogilvie Mills, assembled the scrapbook in this fonds in 1903.

Custodial history: This material was compiled by Marion E. Lyall. It was being discarded after an Ogilvie plant closure, but was salvaged by employee Bradley Morrison.  The fonds was donated on his behalf by his daughter, Glenna Morrison, in 2004. Additional published material was donated in 2007.

Scope and content: The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings relating to the Ogilvie Flour Mills Company, which were collected from many different news sources between May 1902 and January 1903. The articles are about the company’s products and expansion, trade, grain prices, world weather and economic conditions, Canadian grain production, and anything else that related to Ogilvie’s activities.  This scrapbook is a significant piece of company history because it chronicles the events of the year following Alexander Walker Ogilvie’s death and the subsequent amalgamation of A.W. Ogilvie & Company and W.W. Ogilvie Milling Company in May 1902. This was a very busy year for the newly formed Ogilvie Flour Mills Company, Limited, and the beginning of a period of rapid growth. The articles in this scrapbook provide details of the local and world conditions that fueled this growth.

The publications within the 2007 accession focus on the 1950s to 1970s.  This accession provides an outline of Ogilvie activities to the 1970s. Lake of the Woods Milling Co. Ltd. is represented by a series of original documents.

Restrictions: There are no restrictions on this material.

Accruals: Further accruals are not expected.
