In 1968, he was made City Editor of the Tribune. Warren is best known in Winnipeg for his social action talk show on CJOB radio's Action Line, that ran from 1971 to 1998. In 1999, he relocated to Victoria, British Columbia where he hosted a national radio program over CKNW. Peter Warren resigned from his National Radio Program in March 2006 to form Peter Warren Investigative Journalism, an agency devoted to the investigation of cold-case murder files.
Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by Peter Warren in several instalments beginning in 1987.
Scope and content: The fonds contains correspondence covering the years 1967 to 2006, including thousands of letters from politicians, prominent organizations, and private citizens about virtually every major social and political issue in Winnipeg history over a 25 year period. There are news reports and private responses to Warren regarding his radio program and his columns in the form of clipping files. Two court cases are included as are Warren's newspaper articles which begin in 1957 and continue through to 1986. His Winnipeg Tribune and Winnipeg Sun columns are complete collections with the exception of the early Tribune "Showcase" articles in 1966 and 1967. The fonds also contains a large number of original tape recordings of Warren's interviews with noted Manitobans as aired on CJOB's Where Are They Now radio program for twenty years, research, subject files, and correspondence (including e-mail) from listeners of Peter Warren's radio program, CJOB's Action Line. The most recent accessions consist of Warren's editorial comments for his national radio show, letters from and occasionally to his listeners for the years 2004 to 2006, and his personal and investigative case files from the 1980s to 2010. The fonds also contains research material sent to Warren to use on his show. Some correspondence dealing with Thomas Sophonow and Betty Granger will be of particular interest to Manitobans.
