  • Zotero is an open-source reference management tool that first emerged in 2004 as a browser plug-in with the introduction of Mozilla Firefox, an open-source Internet browser.  Since then, Zotero evolved into a user-friendly companion for researchers, successfully accommodating in the increasingly open-access scholarly communication environments. This session will cover how to set up an account, configure a Zotero client, and use it to gather sources  and create in-text citations and bibliographies.  The session will refer to the current Zotero 5 but briefly mention some positive improvements with Zotero 6's introduction anticipated by the end of 2021.

In this session, participants will:

  • Set up a Zotero account and configure the Zotero client
  • Become familiar with the Zotero interface
  • Start capturing sources using the browser's Zotero connector
  • Learn about other ways to integrate sources into Zotero
  • Understand how to manage sources including the use of Tags and search features
  • Be able to produce in-text citations and a bibliography in a designated citation style
