This report concerns an investigation initiated by the ombudsman about a privacy violation under the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA or the act). The investigation related to an unauthorized disclosure of the  personal health information of 91 patients who received magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans within the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA or the trustee) between 2008 and 2016. The patients’ personal health information was unlawfully disclosed to several media organizations in April 2017. The full report contains measures that can strengthen privacy practices and compliance with PHIA.

The Standing Committee on Health has studied diabetes strategies in Canada and abroad. Their report will help the Government of Canada find better ways to prevent people from getting type 2 diabetes and provide more support to people who have diabetes. A key recommendation in this report is for the federal government to work with the provinces and territories and stakeholders to create a national plan to help prevent and manage diabetes in Canada. A copy of the report can be found at the ourcommons website.

HPV Testing for Primary Cervical Cancer Screening. Ottawa: CADTH; 2019 Mar. (CADTH Optimal Use Report; vol. 7, no. 1a,b, c)

CADTH undertook an Optimal Use project to assess the clinical effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, patients’ perspectives and experiences, ethical, and implementation issues associated with HPV testing for primary cervical cancer screening.
