Zotero is an open-source reference management tool that first emerged in 2004 as a browser plug-in with the introduction of Mozilla Firefox, an open-source Internet browser. Since then, Zotero evolved into a user-friendly companion for researchers, successfully accommodating in the increasingly open-access scholarly communication environments. This session will cover how to set up an account, configure a Zotero client, and use it to gather sources and create in-text citations and bibliographies. The session will refer to the current Zotero 5 but briefly mention some positive improvements with Zotero 6's introduction anticipated by the end of 2021.
In this session, participants will:
Set up a Zotero account and configure the Zotero client
Become familiar with the Zotero interface
Start capturing sources using the browser's Zotero connector
Learn about other ways to integrate sources into Zotero
Understand how to manage sources including the use of Tags and search features
Be able to produce in-text citations and a bibliography in a designated citation style
