An illustrated edition of one of the most popular religious works of the Middle Ages, The Golden Legend, a collection of the legendary lives of well-known saints by the thirteenth-century Italian chronicler Jacobus de Voragine.

This edition is the work of the Augsburg printer Johannes Bämler.  The type is Gothic.  There are one hundred and twenty-three colored woodcuts. The volume is rubricated and bears the rubricator's date "1481.  Laus Deo" above the colophon.
