Title: Centre for Transportation Studies fonds.
Dates: 1966-1986.
Extent: 1.07 m of textual records.
Administrative history: In 1966, Professor A.W. Wood presented a proposed research project outline to Dr. H.E. Duckworth (Vice-President Academic) as a response to a growing need for an independent body committed to an objective study of transportation problems. Consequently, the Centre for Transportation Studies was established in 1967. The basic objective of the Centre was to provide continuity and focus to the interdisciplinary study of broad and long range problems of the Canadian transportation system. The Centre for Transportation Studies was superseded in 1984 by the Transport Institute, which was established as part of a Canada-Manitoba Transport sub-agreement. This sub-agreement provided funds for the construction of a building to house the Transport Institute, as well as for the operating and program development funds for a five year period extending to March 31, 1989.
Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by the Transport Institute in 1988.
Scope and content: The fonds contains various administrative records including committee minutes, correspondence, research proposals, annual reports, research reports, budget records, and policy documents.
Restrictions: There are no restrictions on this material.
Finding aid: A printed finding aid is available in the Archives reading room.
