Title: Comptroller's Office fonds.
Dates: 1922-1967.
Extent: 17 m of textual records.
Administrative history: With revisions to the University of Manitoba Act in 1933, the Office of the Bursar was changed to that of Comptroller. This new position also replaced the Registrar as Secretary of the Board of Governors and their committees. This change established a two-headed administration under the Board with the President as academic head and the Comptroller as financial head of the University. The Comptroller's duties also included the supervision and management of all university lands and properties. Initially, the Comptroller's office manager, or bursar, supervised the collection of all fees payable to the University of Manitoba. The Comptroller's Office is now responsible for all accounting and purchasing conducted by the University, as well as for staff payrolls, and budgets and grants.
Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by the Comptroller's Office in three accessions in 1981, 1983, and 1987.
Scope and content: The fonds includes accounting and administration records, staff and payroll records, correspondence, student loans and scholarship records, as well as some Board of Governors minutes.
Restrictions: Records containing personal information are restricted.
Finding aid: A printed finding aid is available in the Archives reading room.
