Biographical sketch: William A. McDonnell and his wife Mary were born just outside of Montreal. They traveled to Broadview and Assiniboia, North West Territories in 1882 and 1885 respectively. In 1888, they bought land in Woodlands, Manitoba from Thomas Carter, who had homesteaded in 1881.
Custodial history: The diary was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by Ken and Joyce McDonnell in 1997. Ken is W.A. McDonnell's grandson.
Scope and content: The fonds consists of one diary detailing William McDonnell's life as a farmer in the former area of Woodlands.
