Biographical sketch: Born in 1871 in Renfrewshire, Scotland, Matthew A. Parker was a graduate of the University of Glasgow. He came to Canada in 1904 to establish the Department of Chemistry at the University of Manitoba. He later helped to found the Scientific Club of Winnipeg and contributed to the establishment of the Canadian Institute of Chemistry in 1919. Parker died in 1953.
Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by Elizabeth Smith in 1979.
Scope and content: The fonds consists of the personal papers of Matthew A. Parker including correspondence, an autograph collection of famous British personalities, biographical items, family documents, and letters of recommendation.
