Download the UM Libraries Self-Checkout App!


1. Download and open the UMLibraries Self-Checkout App on your device.

App Store icon - Click to download the app on iOS      Google Play icon - Click to download the app on an android device      Blackberry icon - download option coming soon!

Allow the app to access your camera in order to scan barcodes on books.

Allow the app to send you notifications.

Allow the app to access your location so that it can automatically connect to the library that you are using.

 

2. Use the UMLibraries Self-Checkout App

Touch "START" on the welcome screen.

Enter the 14-digit number that is printed on your UM ID card or UM Libraries card.

Touch the "+" button to checkout an item.

Scan the barcode of the item you wish to borrow.

 

3. Deactivate the item's security tag

Before leaving the library, deactivate the item's security tag at the Self-Checkout desensitizer station. 

Once the item is deactivated, the app completes the transaction.

Touch the "FINISH" button.
 

You're ready to go!

 

Helpful hints for easy scanning

  • Fit the entire barcode in the viewfinder.
  • Hold the phone steady until the barcode comes into focus.
  • Don't get too close. The best distance is around 15cm / 6"
  • Tilt the phone to avoid glare if necessary.
  • Use the flash in low light.
