Biographical sketch: William Howard McEwen was born February 7, 1902 in Owen Sound, Ontario. He received a B.Sc. from the University of Saskatchewan in 1921 and obtained a M.Sc. the following year. He furthered his education by receiving an M.A. in 1924 and Ph.D. in 1930 from the University of Manitoba. He taught at Regina College from 1925 to 1929. In 1930, he joined Mount Allison University as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics. By 1933, he was a full professor and head of the department. He came to the University of Manitoba in the fall of 1946 to be Head of the Mathematics Department. In 1949, he became the Dean of Graduate Studies, a position he held until 1964. Upon his retirement he was made Professor Emeritus in 1967.
Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by Dorothy Paul in 2003.
