Biographical sketch: Christopher "Kip" Park was born in 1939. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1968 with a B.A. (Honours) in Urban Sociology and Urban Planning and, in 1985, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics. Park had worked in the journalism and communications fields from the late 1960s until shortly before his death. Most of his career and life was based in Winnipeg, where he worked as a freelance journalist as well as formed a home business, Write Works Inc. As a journalist, Park worked for The Winnipeg Tribune, The Manitoban, The Manitoba Co-operator, and The Winnipeg Real Estate News. He published regular articles in The Manitoba Co-operator and The Winnipeg Real Estate News and various magazines. Aside from his journalistic career, Park was an avid photographer. Many of his photographs have accompanied his articles, especially in the fields of construction and real estate. Other employment endeavours included acting as a radio and television producer for the Canadian Broadcasting Company and as Head of Public Education for the Manitoba Department of Mines, Resources and Environmental Management. In addition to his professional career, Park enjoyed the arts including pottery, drawing, and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Kip Park died in 1999.
Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by Sylvia Mouflier in 2001.
Scope and content: The fonds consists of material relating to Kip Park's writing career including correspondence, handwritten and typed notes, newspaper and magazine clippings, drafts, manuscripts, videocassettes, photographs and personal artwork. The research material and files contain information relating to his research on Winnipeg and Manitoba businesses, districts and heritage architecture. The photograph collecion consists of 2898 photographs, 893 negative strips, 415 slides, 2 proof sheeets, 2 VHS videocassettes, and 3 Hi8 videocassettes.
