How to search Scopus

Scopus account

A Scopus account provides single sign-on for all Elsevier products including Mendeley, ClinicalKey, ScienceDirect, SciVal, as well as Scopus. If you have an account from any of the first four, you use this same account with Scopus. In Scopus this account allows you to access extra features.These include:

Note: This account is separate from your UMNetID account used to access Scopus.

To create a Scopus account (this only has to be done once):

  1. Open Scopus.
  2. Click Create Account (button; upper right-hand side of scopus search page.
  3. Enter your UM email address when prompted for your email.
  4. Click Continue (button).
  5. When selecting a password DO NOT use your UMNetID password. Select something unique.
  6. Click Register (button).

Save citations to a permanent list

As you identify citations that are of interest to your research you can add them to a permanent list in Scopus. This list is automatically saved when you exit Scopus and is available to you the next time you sign in to your Scopus account.

To create a Scopus account refer to the Scopus Account information in this guide.

To add documents to your permanent list:

  1. Open Scopus.
  2. Click Sign in (button), and sign in with your Scopus Account credentials.
  3. Search Scopus.
  4. From the results list, click the box next to the documents you want in your temporary list.
  5. From the ... More menu on your search results list, select Save to list
  6. Click on Create new or add to existing Documents list, and do one of the following: 
    1. Type in the name a name for a new list and click Create new list (button).
    2. Select an existing list and click Save to list (button).

To view and/or interact with your lists:

  1. Open Scopus.
  2. Click Sign in (button), and sign in with your Scopus Account credentials.
  3. Click on your profile (your initials; upper right-hand side of Scopus), and select Saved lists.
  4. From the Saved lists page, do one of the following:
    1. Click on the list title to view all citations assigned to that list.
    2. Click Edit to change the list name.
    3. Click Delete to permanently delete the list.
