Enduring Understanding / Knowledge, Skill, Values

What are the big ideas? What specific understandings about the big ideas are desired? What prior knowledge, misconceptions, or misunderstandings might students bring/encounter?

Students will understand:

  • information resources reflect their creators’ expertise and credibility, and are evaluated based on the information need and the context in which the information will be used. (from Authority is Constructed and Contextual)
  • synthesize ideas gathered from multiple sources (Research as Inquiry)
  • seek appropriate help when needed (from Research as Inquiry)

Student's prior knowledge, misconceptions or misunderstandings may include:

  • students will know about U of M Libraries
  • students may or may not have been to the NJMHSL
  • students may or may not know about the CoRS LibGuide and what it offers
  • students may or may not know about the Library's services, resources, and operations

 

Essential Questions

What captivating questions will foster inquiry, understanding and transfer of learning

  • What information and resources does the library provide that cannot freely be found on the Internet?
  • What is the value of the information and resources provided by the library and how does that information and those resources benefit the student while in school and into their professional lives?
  • How can librarians, library assistants, and the staff of libraries make the location, acquisition, and retrieval of accurate of sometimes hard to find information easier?

Knowledge, Skills, Values

On what, if any, Knowledge Practices (knowledge and skills) and Dispositions (values) from the Frame(s) will the instruction focus? What other key knowledge, skills, and values will students acquire as a result of the this lesson/unit?

  • recognize that authoritative content may be packaged formally or informally and may include sources of all media type (Authority is Constructed and Contextual)
  • motivate themselves to find authoritative sources, recognizing that authority may be conferred or manifested in unexpected ways (Authority is Constructed and Contextual)
