In Case of Emergency

As a preventative measure, the Libraries strongly recommends all users who are concerned about the emergency procedure to arrange a tour of the library premise at their home library.

Each of the library units in the UM Libraries system has a detailed emergency procedure in place according to the structure and age of the building in which it resides.  Each library unit follows Emergency Management Program of the University and complies with Manitoba Fire Code. The Libraries follows the guidelines set out by the University including the evacuation of people with disabilities.  See "Evacuating People with Disabilities" Section of the University Emergency Quick Reference Guide, which you will find at the bottom of this section.  If you have any questions regarding the University policy or procedure, please contact Environmental Health and Safety Office, (204) 474-6633 or EHSO@umanitoba.ca.

The elevators should not be used in most emergency situations.  Please note the following unit libraries with elevators:

  • E.K. Williams Law Library
  • Elizabeth Dafoe Library
  • Neil John Maclean Health Sciences Library
  • St. John's College Library
  • Sciences and Technology Library
  • Architecure/Fine Arts Library
