What is a Think Tank?

Think tanks, policy institutes and research institutes are organizations that produce policy-oriented research on a range of topics including domestic and international economic issues. The research produced can help inform decisions about public policy.

Open Think Tank Directory The Open Think Tank Directory captures information about more than 3200 think tanks, policy research centers and related organisations from around the globe.
Global Go To Think Tank Index The Global Go To Think Tank Index is the result of an international survey of over 1,950 scholars, public and private donors, policy makers, and journalists who helped rank more than 6,500 think tanks using a set of 18 criteria developed by the TTCSP.

What are working papers?

Working papers are pre-publication versions of scholarly works including articles, book chapters, reports or reviews. These would not be considered peer-reviewed, and only some working papers will continue on to formal publication. These are helpful for identifying recent and upcoming research in economics.

National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) This link opens in a new window Contains the full-text of working papers from the National Bureau of Economic Research. The NBER covers four areas of empirical research: developing new statistical measurements, estimating quantitative models of economic behavior, assessing the effects of public policies on the U.S. economy, and projecting the effects of alternative policy proposals. Many of its publications, including its working papers, NBER reporter, and NBER digest, are available for download.
