Artist Statement:

Growing up I never had an opportunity to reflect on my identity but this assignment really opened up my eyes and to think deeply about it. For me, my identity comes from my family, my friends, my experiences, and the people I surround myself with.

My piece is titled “who I am” not “who am I?” because I’m not questioning who I am, I know who I am. This piece reflects times in my life that made me who I am today. I can’t include every little moment but I have parts of my life that do mean a lot to me which include family, friends, vacations,  and just memorable moments in general.

From afar you just see me, but when you come close you see all the little things that create me. Like those in my life, the ones who are close know who I am and the ones who are  far just see me as an ordinary person.
