Artist Statement:

Was admitted to the psych ward, suffered delusions and hallucinations. Pencils and paper I brought with me. To fill my time I looked at animals from magazines and chose a Harris Hawk. It was just a quick sketch and I added some things to it. The photo itself triggered some patients in good ways and bad ways, in that there were screams. I choose to do the bird because it symbolizes freedom. In the ward, I had more delusions because other patients did too and we were just completely feeding off each other. Drawing helped a lot. I really wanted to be the bird but again, I was isolated. I still have other paintings and drawings from the place and it’s just distorted images.
