How to cite using AMA in the Health Sciences: UpToDate (topic)

This guide covers the basics of the American Medical Association's (AMA) citation style.

Format, Example and Tips - UpToDate (topic)

Elements to include and formatting

Author(s) of chapter. Chapter title. In: Post T, ed. UpToDate. UpToDate; current year. Accessed date. URL (no period after the URL)

Example

  1. Celli BR. Pulmonary Rehabilitation. In: Post TW, ed. UpToDate. UpToDate; 2021. Accessed December 10, 2021. https://www.uptodate.com

Tips

  • The AMA Manual of Style does not have a specific example for referencing UpToDate.
  • For UpToDate citations the publisher recommends that you "cite the UpToDate topic as a chapter in a book titled UpToDate, edited by Ted. W. Post, published by UpToDate in Waltham, MA. There are no page numbers to cite, and the publication year for any topic should be the current year." [Wolters-Kluwer]
