General Mentions of Websites, Periodicals, and Common Software and Apps
It is not necessary to cite-- in-text or in in the reference list-- any website, periodical, or common software if mentioning them with no indication of any specific information or page. For instance, this might occur in listing places where you've searched for information. There is, however, some formatting required.
Examples
Websites
Provide the name of the website in the text and include the URL in parentheses.
e.g. We created our questionnaire using SurveyMonkey (https://www.surveymonkey.com).
Periodicals
Give the journal title in italics using title case.
e.g. I searched the Journal of the Canadian Journal of Nursing Research for studies.
Common Software and Apps
Include the name of the program or app (and the version, if known) in the text.
e.g. I used Instagram to browse different hashtags related to health.
Information on this page was adapted from "Chapter 8: Works Credited in the Text", in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.), as well as the APA webpage, "In-Text Citations".
