How to cite using APA in the Health Sciences

Your Writing

What stage are you at?

The Basics

Always refer to the APA Publication Manual (7th ed., 2020) for more examples. You may also consult the APA Style website.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Your Work

Citation is more than the acknowledgment of an author's work. It also provides you with the critical opportunity to uplift authors who are gender-diverse, Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC), or S2LGBTQIA+. It is also important to consider accessibility in your work. Find more information throughout this guide on how to support marginalized groups through your research practices.

Academic Integrity

  • Anytime you incorporate someone else’s ideas into your own work, it is necessary to acknowledge the source of that idea.
    • This is relevant to work such as papers/essays, lab reports, presentations, and posters.
    • Citations allow others to see where you got your work and makes it easy for readers to learn more
  • Be proactive and cite your sources (see Step 1: When to Cite)

Make Citing and Reference Lists Easy
