Formatting Tips

  • If you are working on an assignment for class, clarify with your instructor that you are allowed to cite lecture material.
  • If the audience for which are you writing does not have access to the slides, treat them as a personal communication instead.
  • Author: Use the creator as the author.
  • Date: Provide the most specific date possible, starting with year, then month and day.
  • Title: The title should be italicized and in sentence case. Include the subtitle if there is one.
  • Provide the type of media (PowerPoint slides or Google Slides) in square brackets after the title (not italicized).
  • Source: If the slides come from a classroom website or learning management system and you are writing for an audience with access to the resource, provide the name of the site and use the login page URL for sites requiring login.
  • When the slides are available online to anyone, provide the site name as the source and the most specific URL.
  • Do not follow the URL with a period.
