UpToDate

Elements for a Topic

Author(s). (Year). Title of topic. UpToDate. Retrieved date, from URL

Example

Bordeaux, B. (2023). Benefits and risks of caffeine and caffeinated beverages. UpToDate. Retrieved April 16, 2024,

Formatting Tips

  • UpToDate topic articles follow the format of a journal article in proprietary database
  • Author: List the author(s) of the topic article. If there is more than one, list them in the order they appear in the publication information (at the top of the page).
  • Date: Use the year from the most recent publication/revision/update.
  • Title: Provide the title of the topic article in sentence case.
  • Source: The name of the database (UpToDate) is italicized.
  • Because the content in the UpToDate database is available only in that database and is designed to change over time (without archived version), provide a retrieval date.
  • Include the URL in the reference. Do not follow with a period.
